The Lifestyle of the majority of people in today’s world is sedentary in nature. A sedentary life is a slow, lazy and miserable life. It could also be a fast trip to an early grave.
Yes, you achieve a crossover faster sitting down more!
Many lucrative jobs in multinational companies provide their employees with all the comfort that can be desired in life. However, job functions that require sitting still at a desk all day long neglect an important aspect – “health”.
With the kind of sedentary lifestyle that many people follow these days, there is little room for physical movement. Our brains may undergo lots of exercise, hut our physical body generally doesn’t. Unfortunately, the human body needs a certain amount of physical activity, in order to stay healthy.
Here are some of the negative effects of sedentary lifestyle that can be dangerous and harmful to our health in the longterm.
The direct effect of an inactive life is – being overweight. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, you absorb and store a lot of calories indirectly because there is no physical exercise to burn those calories. It is these calories that are stored in the body as excess fat – leading to obesity.
Risk of heart disease
For the heart to function properly there should be a continuous flow of blood through blood vessels. However, a sedentary lifestyle can lead to a slowing of the blood supply to the heart, which could make the blood vessels become gradually blocked. A severe case of blockage of blood vessels can also lead to arteriosclerosis and even cardiac arrest.
Use it or lose it
Your muscles need regular exercise to be in good shape and give you enough strength for your daily activities.
However, if you lead a sedentary life, the muscles are hardly used. They gradually weaken. This lack of movement and exercise will reduce the capacity and muscle strength / mass of your body. Sitting all day without any exercise is certainly not beneficial to your posture and your spine.
A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of cancer in a person. The decrease in physical activity can also lead to different types of cancer such as breast cancer, colon cancer and tumors as well. An inactive body can give rise to dangerous cancer cells, increasing the risk of ddeath.
Increased risk of diabetes
Blood sugar levels can also be kept under control through regular physical activity. If the body practices regular and intensive exercise, it can easily control the blood sugar level. However, if there is no physical exercise, the risk of an increase in blood sugar is inevitable.
The increase in blood sugar will put pressure on the pancreas, which will affect the secretion of insulin, increasing the risk of diabetes.
You can feel it in your bones
A sedentary life can cause weak bones because there is no challenge for them to support the body. A prolonged period of laziness can cause problems such as arthritis and osteoporosis resulting in fragile bones. A disaster waiting to happen!
A life without activity can also lead to sleep problems. A sedentary lifestyle does not provide enough reason for the body to rest. Therefore, the body feels no need for rest leading to sleep difficulties that can later turn into insomnia.
Telomeres, the repeat sequence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is one that rests on the ends of chromosomes and protect them from damage. These telomeres shorten with age. Research has shown that, in inactive people their telomeres shorten faster than in an active person. The more the telomeres are diminished, the faster will be visible the signs of old age.
Certainly modernity make it tough to live an active life. You sit in the office, sit in the cat, leave the office late, arrive late, take a late meal, day in day out, year in, year out. Sundays you are sitting church listening to sermons. Saturdays, you are at a party, sitting down, guzzling rice and stew, swishing wine in your mouth!
Clearly, keeping active needs serious determination for the modern man.
If you do NOT want to cross to the other side faster, sitting down, more, is the best way to NOT do that.
By all means, stay mentally active. But above all, never stay physically indolent!
