Time was, when the announcement of a slash in the price of data on our SmartPhones would send the adrenaline pumping. Now, we have a number of options , making data almost valueless. Some of those options, while being illegal, or unethical, are there. Let your conscience be the best guide, and (mis)lead you, accordingly..
Mostly on Android, some of the following options are available…
- You could buy “Share Data” on MTN and Etisalat. That is, you buy retail data from bulk sellers, saving yourself money. (Glo and AirTel are yet to offer this)
- You could change your IMEI number, and fool GLO into thinking your device is a BlackBerry (even when it is not), thus benefiting from their cheap BlackBerry plans on NON blackberry devices.
In connection with this, EtiSalat and AirTel give associated data with specific new devices. Free.
- Changing your device IMEI could be done to fool the network into identifying your old device as one of the new ones eligible for the free / subsidized bundled data.
- You could unleash the combo of SimpleServer and ProxyDroid / AutoProxy/ PsiPhon on the MTN / AirTel platforms to surf till eternity. No data caps.
With data being so abundant (with the right knowledge / platform), the zeal to download movies , ebooks, etc has suddenly become tepid.
Once something becomes super abundant, accessible, it loses its value in the mind of the consumer. And its price almost always plummets, as a result
It is one of the prime reasons couples in their middle age bracket are more likely to engage in extra marital affairs. The couples are likely suffering from “see finish” syndrome, as postulated by Charlie Boy.
Human psychology. An interesting thing. Even if mostly illogical / irrational.
