Dropbox – Happy Days Are Here

Do you use Dropbox? Then you have cause to smile because happy days are indeed here.

Dropbox is a cloud file storage facility with file sharing. It was founded in 2007 and launched in 2008. Since then it has been on the upward climb. It is now one of the best cloud storage and sharing facilities around with a subscriber base counted in millions. With Dropbox, you save your file using your PC or any of your supported mobile device, and you can access the file any where on any device that runs the Dropbox app. The operating systems that run Dropbox include: Microsoft Windows operating system, Mac OS 10.4 and later, Linus, iOS, Android OS, Blackberry, Meego Harmathan, and Symbian OS.

Basically, we have the free version offering registered users 2G of Steve storage space. When you refer friends to Dropbox, you get 500Mb free storage space added per referral. Paid versions include the Dropbox Pro 50 with 50Gb storage going for $9.99/month and the Dropbox Pro 100 with, as the name suggests, 100Gb storage going for $19.99/month. With the Pro versions, a referral earns the user a free extra 1Gb of space. The ultimate plan in Dropbox is the Team plan which gives 1Tb storage space.

So you may ask: What’s the noise all about? Why the happy days? Well, we just got to hear that if you are a Dropbox Pro 50 user, from tonight, your 50Gb becomes 100Gb and a Dropbox Pro 100 user gets 200Gb. What do you do to get these extras? Just sleep and wake up tomorrow morning. That’s all. It is an upgrade taking place this night. Your subscription remains unchanged.

The news came about 6 hours ago on Dropbox official blog and written by Anna Christina Doughlas. See below for the full text of the announcement.

“Since time immemorial (2008), folks have been asking us for a bigger Dropbox. We’ve heard from architects with giant drafting files and photographers with huge portfolios, but mostly we hear from families who have more than 100 GB of photos, docs and videos. And now that Dropbox can automatically upload your photos from just about any camera or phone, everyone’s adding tons of pictures and videos to Dropbox every day. As people add more stuff to Dropbox, we want to make sure they don’t have to worry about space.

Today we’re happy to announce that our upgrades are getting a huge upgrade! Dropbox Pro now comes in flavors of 100 and 200 GB, but at the price of the original 50 and 100 GB plans. For those of you who need even more space, a brand new 500 GB plan is also joining the posse! If you’re already a Dropbox Pro subscriber, just take a seat and enjoy the fireworks — your Dropbox will supersize itself automatically tonight.

All this goodness goes live on our pricing page this evening, so stay tuned. We’ve got an extra bonus too: since sharing is caring, we’re giving existing Pro users a three month Pro 100 trial to share with friends or family!

We hope that these bigger Dropboxes help you create amazing stuff
Happy Dropboxing

P.S. For those of you using Dropbox for your business, check out Teams! You get a single centralized bill, phone support, and 1 TB of space to start.”

Will the other cloud file storage facilities see this as a marketing strategy and follow the same way? One cannot say, but if they do, then consumers are really going to have more Happy Days ahead.
